How a 10-Minute Reset Can Reduce Stress, Release Tension, and Calm Your Nervous System

How a 10-Minute Reset Can Reduce Stress, Release Tension, and Calm Your Nervous System

In our always-on world, feeling tense, scattered, or overwhelmed can become a daily norm.

You might notice your shoulders creeping up toward your ears, your breath shallow, your jaw clenching, a headache come on, or your thoughts racing by midday. You may not even notice these sensations in the moment—only at the end of the day. Alternatively, you might completely disconnect and feel ‘numb’ to all of it.

These signs aren’t just in your head either; they are messages from your body and nervous system, trying to keep up. While they are normal, they do not have to be your norm.

Why I Created the RESET Audio

I often see and address stress-related pain and tension with clients. While acknowledging the overwhelm is an important step, having a tool to:

  1. Help the body release the tension
  2. Reduce cortisol (stress hormone)
  3. Break the physiological loop of ‘always being on’

...is something I’ve always wanted to provide—something easy, accessible, and effective.

That’s why I created RESET: a free, 10-minute guided audio designed to help you shift from stress and tension into a state of calm and relaxation, anytime you need it.

Whether you’re navigating a packed workday, transitioning out of “go mode,” or simply craving a deeper exhale, RESET is a tool to help you pause and re-centre.

Why It’s Hard to Switch Off

The body and mind aren’t separate—but we often treat them like they are. When we feel overwhelmed, it’s not just a mental experience. You feel it in your body too: tight muscles, held breath, a clenched jaw, fatigue that doesn’t seem to lift.

It’s not only about the constant micro-stressors (notifications, decisions, deadlines). Over time, your body adapts to a new baseline of overwhelm. This means that if you've been living in stress mode for a while, you’ll need to actively re-teach your system how to slow down again.

This Is Why Micro-Moments of Rest Matter

Many of us think rest means sleeping, doing nothing, taking an hour-long break, or going on holiday. But there’s power in micro-moments—intentional pauses that allow the body to come down from stress and the mind to re-orient.

In my work, I’ve noticed that the people who manage stress most effectively, are those who intentionally switch off, take small breaks, choose not to ruminate, and actively use positive coping mechanisms.

Even just a few minutes can:

  • Improve heart rate variability (a key sign of nervous system resilience)
  • Lower cortisol levels
  • Increase mental clarity and emotional regulation
  • Release muscular tension

That’s the intention behind RESET: to offer a short, accessible practice that’s effective and repeatable.

When to Use the RESET

There’s no wrong time to press play. But here are a few moments when it’s especially helpful:

  • Midday, when your focus is fading or your body feels tight
  • After work, to transition into your evening
  • Before bed, to unwind and sleep more deeply
  • During high stress or emotional overwhelm, to feel anchored again

You could also use it before a difficult conversation, after a long commute, or while travelling—it’s designed to meet you where you are.

How to Get the Most Out of It

  • Find a relatively quiet spot (but it doesn’t have to be silent)
  • Use headphones for a more immersive experience
  • Let go of the pressure to “do it right”—just show up
  • Repeat as needed—you’ll likely notice different things each time

👉 Ready to Reset?

The RESET audio is my gift to help you create space in your day—and in your body. It’s completely free and only takes 10 minutes.
